Welcome to 7th grade language arts and the partnership of Mrs. Wells and Mrs.Kludt.
In 7th grade language arts, the bar has been set high for the students. Mrs. Wells and Mrs. Kludt will be focusing their efforts on improving students' reading, grammatical, and writing skills. Students will be introduced to the six writing traits (ideas, organization, conventions, word choice, sentence fluency, and voice). They will also be involved in creative writing from short stories to poetry such as haiku. At the same time, children will be reading novels during the year, as well as an assortment of short stories. The goal is to encourage a love of reading as well as to develop the students' understanding of plot, character development, and other literary techniques.
Mrs. Wells attended both USC and UCLA where she majored in English, minored in political science, and acquired her teaching credential. She was a participant in the UCLA Invitational Writing Project. She has been teaching for 36 years in the South Pasadena Unified School District with 18 of those years at SPMS. Mrs. Wells loves all animals, especially horses and her two dogs Barkley and Dickens.
Mrs. Kludt attended UW-Madison, where she majored in Secondary English Education. She is new to the west coast and loves being close to the ocean. She enjoys camping, hiking, and photography (along with reading and writing, of course!).
Students who are reading a novel in class will not be required to have the novel at home unless specifically stated. Click here to see a list of books.
